Registration Begins for the 2010-2011 School Year.

Any child who becomes five years of age on or before August 31 may enter Kindergarten.  That’s the easy part.

You can register your child at your local school beginning April 6, 2010, proof of birth date and immunization records are required.  Not sure which school boundary you are in? Check out the school boundary map, or call the office of elementary education at 313-1010.

Interested in full day kindergarten or one of the dual language kindergarten programs? Check out the Vancouver School District’s Kindergarten Information page.

Register by May 1 to ensure your child receives an invitation to attend Kindergarten visitation this Spring. Chinook Elementary will have their Kindergarten visitation May 26; Salmon Creek Elementary will be May 29.

Klineline Kids Fish-In Event

Annual Event is Reel Fun.

The 11th Annual Klineline Pond Kids’ Fish-In Event is Saturday April 10, 2010.

Klineline Pond is stocked with thousands of trout to give kids the best chance possible of experiencing the “thrill of the catch”.  All fishing gear and bait will be provided, and each child will have the chance to catch, clean and keep up to two fish. While there is no guarantee of a catch, all kids will get a Fishing Kids T-Shirt, and get to keep the rod and reel they fished with!

The Salmon Creek Lions will be there giving out prizes for the best fish caught throughout the day and running the lunch counter. Registration deadline is April 2, 2010 and is by mail only.  Click for the 2010 Klineline Pond Kids’ Fish-In Event Registration, or call Dan Bodell (909-5256) if you are interested in volunteering at this event.

Are you hooked on fishing and wishing your kids were, too? Check out the advice from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to make your first fishing trips a success.

Christmas Wishes in Salmon Creek

Salmon Creek Wishing WellAlmost-two-year-old Bridger wasn’t waiting for Santa to make his Christmas wishes at the Crystal Plum Bazaar at Alki Middle School in Salmon Creek.

Some of my favorite items at the Crystal Plum Bazaar were handbags made out of recycled plastic bags by Shellie Sews (shelliepc@hotmail.com), Dirt Soap by Country Memories Soap, Photography by Jodi Tripp, and glass art by A Glass Act.

There are lots of talented local artists and local vendors in Clark County.  For unique gifts for your family, friends, or yourself, check out some of the upcoming Bazaars in our area.

Hope your wishes come true, and Happy Birthday Bridger!

Good Luck Alki Eighth Grade Football! They will be playing in the Vancouver School District Middle School Football Championship Game on Wednesday, October 21st, 6:00 pm at Kiggins Bowl against Jason Lee.

It’s been an exciting season to watch, with five wins and one loss; with Jason Lee being the only school to beat the wolves! So come on out and cheer our boys as they take on the Panthers!

Parking or No Parking?

That is the Question.

Update: County Commissioners have scheduled a public hearing on the proposed changes on December 8, 10 am at the Public Service Center (1300 Franklin Street).

Clark County Public Works will be holding an Open House for public input in regards to restricting parking in the Mt. Vista neighborhood by WSU in Salmon Creek.

In 2008, a group of residents North and West of the WSU Vancouver campus asked the county to restrict on-street parking. Surveys conducted in spring 2009 showed that a majority of residents living on Northeast 147th, 148th and 150th streets and 26th Avenue favored the change.

If approved, the county would restrict on-street parking along Northeast 147th, 148th and 150th streets between 29th and 26th avenues, and on Northeast 26th Avenue between 147th and 148th streets. The restrictions would occur Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Other roads north of Northeast 150th Street could also be affected.

If you want to be heard, or want to hear what others are saying,  the meeting will be Tuesday, August 11, 6-8 pm at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office West Precinct classroom, 505 NW 179th St., in Ridgefield.
