Come Celebrate Clark County’s Newest Park!
Join your friends and neighbors for a special dedication event for the Fairgrounds Community Park (216 NW 164th St, Ridgefield) on Saturday May 22, at 10 am. Remember, we live in the beautiful, yet unpredictable, Pacific Northwest, and the ceremony will take place rain or shine.
Approximately 30 acres of this 88 acre property was developed, and includes walking and biking trails, a playground, restrooms, covered picnic areas, basketball hoops, and great views!
Clark County Commissioner Tom Mielke will be making comments, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony, and light refreshments courtesy of some great local sponsors; including Albertsons, Burgerville (will this be a Nomad sighting?), the Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association, Edward Jones, Krispy Kreme, and Peet’s Coffe and Tea.
For more information, visit the Greater Clark Parks District online, or call 360-397-6118.

Residents Voice Concerns to Clark County on Noble Meadows.
Led by efforts of several neighbors, a group formed as Whipple Neighbors which opposes the planned Noble Meadows subdivision petitioned Clark County for changes to the proposed development. At issue was the creation of building lots as small as 4,000 square feet in a neighborhood where adjacent zoning is 10,000 square foot minimums. The neighbors, some sixty strong, and the land-use attorney representing their interests, filed comments which included detailed analysis of errors and issues related to the proposed development.
Some of the primary considerations presented were as follows:
- Failing to process the PUD as a re-zone as required by WA law
- Failing to meet rezone standards
- Failing to meet County PUD standards
- Proposing lot sizes as small as 4,486 sq. feet in a minimum 10,000 sq. foot zone
- Placing a stormwater facility in a riparian buffer/geo-hazard zone
- Proposing 100,000 cubic yards of cut and fill
- Proposing a plan inconsistent with the recommendations of their own geo-tech
- Certifying the project without have traffic counts as required
- Accepting a stormwater plan without appropriate engineering stamp.
In total, there were eleven pages of comments by the Whipple Neighbors group. We have made the documents available for review and download here

WSU Vancouver to Survey for Property Lines.
We heard recently that Washington State University – Vancouver Campus was to begin work to determine property lines around part of their beautiful Salmon Creek campus. In discussions with WSUV personnel, we were told that they wanted to keep an open channel of communications about the project. To that end, a postcard was going out to University neighbors – specifically along the western boundary – discussing the upcoming work. Here is the text of the postcard and the picture they referenced.
Dear Neighbor:
We want to make you aware of some work we’re doing on Washington State University Vancouver’s perimeter. Over the coming weeks and months we will be surveying to determine our property line. Our work may disturb some vegetation in the area. We will work lightly to minimize our impact. After we locate our property line, we will begin construction of our standard “farm fence” along our western boundary. It’s the same fence that runs alongside Salmon Creek Avenue and is pictured on the front of this postcard. We plan to run this fence along our entire property line in time. The fence line will reflect property lines, which may not otherwise be clear. If you have questions or concerns about our project, please call James Martin at 360-546-9000.
Best regards,
Washington State University Vancouver
Go, Cougs!
Sounds like the University is looking to keep neighbors in the loop about events surrounding the boundary survey process. If you have questions, be a good neighbor and touch base with the University through the contact information they provide.

That is the Question.

Update: County Commissioners have scheduled a public hearing on the proposed changes on December 8, 10 am at the Public Service Center (1300 Franklin Street).
Clark County Public Works will be holding an Open House for public input in regards to restricting parking in the Mt. Vista neighborhood by WSU in Salmon Creek.
In 2008, a group of residents North and West of the WSU Vancouver campus asked the county to restrict on-street parking. Surveys conducted in spring 2009 showed that a majority of residents living on Northeast 147th, 148th and 150th streets and 26th Avenue favored the change.
If approved, the county would restrict on-street parking along Northeast 147th, 148th and 150th streets between 29th and 26th avenues, and on Northeast 26th Avenue between 147th and 148th streets. The restrictions would occur Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other roads north of Northeast 150th Street could also be affected.
If you want to be heard, or want to hear what others are saying, the meeting will be Tuesday, August 11, 6-8 pm at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office West Precinct classroom, 505 NW 179th St., in Ridgefield.

Specialty Beer and Wine Store Coming Soon.
“There cannot be good living where there is not good drinking.” -Benjamin Franklin
If you believe good ol’ Ben, then Salmon Creek living is getting better. Nova Wine Shop is planning on opening a specialty beer and wine store in the Salmon Creek Square, next to West Coast Bank. No opening day set, but we’ll keep you posted.
Sushi Chiyo, which is also opening opening soon in the Salmon Creek Square has applied for their liquor license; as has Bamboo Hut next to the Salmon Creek Fred Meyer. Looks like Salmon Creek Burgerville started a chain reaction.

Or is it Chiyo Sushi?
Looks like Salmon Creek eaters will be getting another restaurant to choose from pretty soon.
Remember where Taco Del Mar used to be; right by Salmon Creek Burgerville and Panda Express?
Well, there is a new sign in the window “Coming Soon – Sushi Chiyo”. So, I am assuming we will now have a Sushi Restaurant in the near future.
I looked up “Sushi Chiyo” but could only find “Chiyo Sushi”. If it is the same place, here is what they have to say about themselves…”Cool Sushi Place” and “We’re nice people with great sushi, clean and homey place and great service“. Well, there you have it.
We’ll keep you posted as we find out more, or please feel free to post your comments and let us know what you think.

Northside Barber has a New Sign and New Location.
Northside Barber, previously located on Highway 99, is now up and running, er…cutting, in Salmon Creek. There is a new sign and a new location, but the faces behind the chairs are the same.
Pam, Marci and Tammi are enjoying the new location in Salmon Creek, 1309 NE 134th Street, in the business center next to the I-5 Southbound on-ramp, and just behind the Wayside Market/Shell Gas Station.
More good news? No new prices with the new digs. Haircuts for every member of your family for $8 each, or just $6 for those over 62 years young. Give a call, 573-7292, or stop by, and tell them “Hi” from their friends at Salmon Creek Live!
