The Kiggins Theatre, named after former Vancouver Mayor JP Kiggins and a downtown landmark since 1936,  has undergone a huuuuge renovation, and is now open for your movie-going pleasure! Community events, art and music will also be an integral part of the Kiggins schedule in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

“After a year and a half of renovations, spurred on by hundreds of supporters and volunteers, the Kiggins Theatre has finally reopened its doors.  Catering to local demand for independent, classic and family movies at affordable prices, the theatre will offer shows four days a week, Friday through Monday.  The art deco lounge, located on the second will floor, will offer beer, wine and cider to go alongside pizza and other snacks. Built in 1936 and tastefully restored, the theatre offers a genuine main street experience giving the next generation of movie goers the chance to create their own Kiggins memories.”

Like to go to the movies? Well, you will have about 300 different movies to choose from during the Fourth Annual Columbia Gorge International Film Festival taking place in multiple locations throughout Vancouver USA August 10-14, 2011.

This is a free community friendly festival and open to the public.

What’s your idea of a fun Friday night? Dinner and a movie? A little wine and music?  Hanging out in the backyard with friends? How about if you could combine all those things together? Well, that’s what the folks at  Rusty Grape Vineyard have done; and you’re invited!

From now until September 30, 2011 the Rusty Grape Vineyard will be showing a different movie each Friday night beginning at dusk (movies are free), weather permitting. They also offer wood fired pizzas, and Rusty Grape’s own Pacina’s Cucina will be serving up artisan breads, spreads, cheeses, and even some imported and domestic beer. (Yes, beer, at a winery ).

They have partnered with Downtown Camas Association to bring the Camas community an event for all ages. On March 19 from 4-10 pm the Liberty is hosting a benefit concert for Camas public Schools and their music programs.  There will be live music, food, drinks and a raffle all for only $5 per ticket.

The live performances will showcase The Go Project, Social Gravy, Jon Hecox, Bob Calhoun, James Kerridge, Julia’s Misfortune, Storm Runner and also a special show from Camas Public School students.

The raffle will include electronics from Logitech, a Bike from Camas Bike & Sport as well as a basket put together from downtown merchants.  Many of the downtown businesses will be staying open late to accommodate the event and offer special items for ticket holders.

“CEF is always looking for new ways to support the school district and engage with the community. We are thrilled to have students participate alongside professionals in the re-opening of the Liberty Theatre in a way that directly benefits music programs. In addition to raising funds and visibility for music programs, two CHS students are working on this event as part of their Senior Projects. It’s a great event on many levels and we’re delighted to be part of this historic evening.” Ron Gompertz, President of the Camas Educational Foundation.

For those over 21 Nuestra mesa will be offering food and beverages in the lounge and the Liberty Theatre snack bar will be open for all ages.

The event is part of Liberty Theatres opening weekend event and all proceeds will go Camas Education Foundation and the Downtown Camas Association.

Tickets are available online through the Camas Education Foundation, the Downtown Camas Association and through the Liberty Theatre.

Tickets are also on sale at some downtown businesses and will be available at the door.

It’s odorless, colorless and tasteless. It’s in the food we eat and the beverages we drink. You can travel on it, or play in it. Political disputes have centered around it. In some places, it’s treasured and incredibly difficult to get. In others, it’s incredibly easy to get and then squandered. What substance is more necessary to our existence than any other? Water.

Join the Vancouver Watersheds Council and Clark County Environmental Services for a monthly film series focused around the Earth’s most precious resource – Water!

The series will be held on the third Tuesday of each month, starting on January 18^th and concluding in June.  Each documentary film will be followed by a forum discussion with either the filmmaker or local environmental experts. The films being shown are:

• “Deep Green” - January 18
• “Water Before Anything” –February 15
• “The Great Salmon Run” – March 15
• “Thirst” – April 19
• “The End of the Line” – May 17
• “Blue Gold” – June 21

“Deep Green” will be shown from 6-9 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Vancouver at 4505 E. 18^th St.  Following the showing, “Deep Green” filmmaker Matt Briggs will participate in a Q & A.  The event is free, food and activities for children will be provided!

It’s Friday night. Wanna catch a movie? Meet up with friends? Don’t want to spend a ton of money on either? Lucky for you (and me) there are several locations around Clark County that are offering free Friday night movies on the lawn.

The Vancouver Farmer’s Market, downtown Vancouver at Esther Short Park offers free movies Friday nights beginning at dusk. Brink your own blankets or chairs and enjoy some snacks; fresh squeezed lemonade, Kilauea Hawaiian Shaved Ice, or Double Dip Ice Cream Cart. Show up a bit early and enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Friday Night at Vancouver Farmer’s Market. July 30th movie is The Blind Side.

Want to enjoy some wine with your movie? The Rusty Grape Vineyard in Battle Ground opens up their vineyard for movies on the lawn. The movies start at dusk, but the wine tasting room opens at noon; and tastings are complementary. Feel free to buy a bottle to enjoy during the movie, bring a picnic or pizza, kick back and relax! July 30th movie is Airplane.

LeRoy Haagen Memorial Park also shows free Friday night movies, presented by Dr. Bonnie Lund, DDS and the Port of Portland. This 30 acre neighborhood park is located between the Hearthwood and Fircrest neighborhoods. Bring the kids early and let them play on the play structure, shoot some hoops,  or run around the track, then settle down and watch a family movie. July 30th movie is The Blind Side.

That’s right, free movies for the kids on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 am at the Regal Cinemas on Highway 99. Regal Cinemas has been offering the Free Family Film Festival since 1991; free tickets for kids and parents to select rated G and PG movies beginning Tuesday July 7 through August 26. The Regal Cinemas in Cascade Park is also participating.

Put on your comfy clothes, grab your blanket and pillow (and Mom, Dad, brothers and sisters) and head to Chinook on Friday March 20th for Family movie night.  Pizza, soda, popcorn, and sweet treats available to purchase; as well as Yearbooks, Chinook t-shirts and sweatshirts.   Pizza sale begins at 6 pm, PTSA meeting at 6:30, and Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! begins at 6:45.  See you there!

Three Creeks Library in Salmon Creek will be hosting a Family Fun movie event on Saturday, April 4th at 2 p.m.  Pull up a chair, have some popcorn and punch and enjoy this month’s free movie, WALL-E.   Three Creeks Library has many events scheduled; and, as always, library programs are open to the public and there is no cost to attend.  Check out Events at Three Creeks Library in Salmon Creek.
