Because Cancer Never Sleeps.
Relay For Life of Vancouver is this weekend, July 16th & 17th. This 24-hour event is set to begin at 10am on Saturday – at Columbia River High School. If you have never attended Relay before, you are encouraged to come and share in the hope, be inspired and enjoy in all the FUN that this powerful and moving event has to offer. You can expect to find live entertainment, family-friendly activities, bargain shopping, themed laps with prizes and great food all day and night.
Relay For Life, is the signature event for the American Cancer Society – in which friends, families, co-workers, neighbors and a community, come together to raise funds to help fight cancer. The reason Relay is a 24-hour event, is because — cancer never sleeps. If you or someone you love has been touched by cancer, you know this all too well.
Stop by whenever you like, there is something exciting going on all the time! Some of the main highlights include:
The Celebration of Life – which honors survivors and caregivers – kicks off the event on Saturday, July 16th at 10am. Please invite any cancer survivors and caregivers you know, to participate in this free ceremony. We also encourage you to register, if you’ve ever been diagnosed with cancer.
Shop at the Silent Auction! Get some shopping done and help a great cause at the same time — Saturday 6-8pm. There are always some fantastic items at the Silent Auction – stop by and place your bids!!! There is even a kid’s auction from 5-8 pm.
Light a Luminaria in memory or honor of someone who has battled cancer. During the Luminaria Ceremony – Saturday at 11pm – everything goes dark except for the luminaria, which light up the track. This powerful and emotional ceremony, is a time to really reflect on each individual’s reason to Relay.
Fight Back Ceremony is a chance for you to make your pledge for the coming year. Even if you can’t stay all night, be sure to come back Sunday the 17th at around 9:30am for this ceremony! It is an opportunity to express what YOU are going to do to fight back against cancer. It can be as simple as “I pledge to wear sunscreen” or “I pledge to volunteer, start a team, or talk to one person each day about Relay For Life.” These pledges will be tied to balloons and released.
