As part of our ongoing coverage of the activities that shape your Salmon Creek neighborhood, the following are the formal minutes from the North Salmon Creek Neighborhood Association General Meeting, held on March 24, 2009.
The March 24, 2009 NSCNA General Meeting was held at Three Creeks Library at 7 PM. The meeting was started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by President Barbara Anderson.
1. Officer’s Reports
a. Avril moves to dispense with the reading of the minutes and the Treasurer’s Report. Dan seconded. Vote: All in favor, none opposed. Motion carries.
2. Announcements:
a. Klineline Pond Children’s Fishing event is coming up. See flyer for info.
b. Ann Foster is interested in starting a Salmon Creek Farmers Market.
c. Patron Tour of the Schools – the next one is a tour of Skyview High School and Discovery Middle School on Friday, April 10th.
3. NSCNA Boundary Change
a. Our boundaries are changing to: The western edge of the NSCNA to NW 41st Ave with Salmon Creek as the southern edge and establish District 6 representation with the western boundary being NW 41st Ave, eastern boundary being NW 21st, northern boundary being 151st, and southern boundary being Salmon Creek. To accomplish this, we have to approve bylaw revisions that reflect the new boundary and create a new director position.
b. Dan moves to accept the revised bylaws reflecting a boundary realignment agreement with Felida Neighborhood Association and adding a new director position seven. Avril seconds. Vote: All in favor. None opposed. Motion carries.
4. Speaker: Jim Gladson with Clark County regarding area parks.
a. Fairgrounds Community Park
i. They hope to start Phase 1 construction by late May. It will take about a year to complete.
ii. What has been removed from Phase 1 of construction?
- Skateboarding spot
– Woodland trail in the undeveloped area of the park may come a year or so after the initial construction phase.
iii. What is included in Phase 1?
– Walking trails
- Picnic shelters
- Basketball court
- Children’s area with playground structure similar to what is in Felida Park right now.
- Lots of open space – The park is 87 acres.
- Parking lot
b. Chinook Park
i. 3-5 acre neighborhood park. They identified the location without checking to see the actual environmental constraints of the site. Given the constraints, only less than an acre is actually developable. They backed off and have been looking for alternatives for 2+ years.
ii. They are working on property negotiations. They are HOPING within a few months they will have more certainty.
iii. The County remains committed to building this park for us.
5. Door Prizes
a. Giving away three $10 gift certificates to Burgerville! Thank you, Burgerville!
6. Neighbor to Neighbor Announcements
a. Book club starting about the Constitution and the Founding Fathers.
b. New website: SalmonCreekLive.com
c. Hazel Dell Parade is coming up in May. They need volunteers to help with staging. Contact info is in the newsletter.
7. NSCNA Parks Committee
a. Right now, it’s all board members. We need some others!
b. This would help with community support for our area parks, fundraising, lobbying, grant writing, etc.
