As part of our ongoing coverage of the activities that shape your Salmon Creek neighborhood, the following are the formal minutes from the North Salmon Creek Neighborhood Association General Meeting, held on September 23, 2008.
The September 23rd NSCNA General Meeting was held at 7pm at the Three- Creeks Library. The meeting was started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by president Barbara Anderson.
1. Officer’s Reports
a. Reading of the minutes from the July General meeting was waived by vote to save time for business and speakers. The minutes are posted on the NSCNA website.
b. The Treasurer’s report was waived in the absence of Darin Kaysner, however, Barbara Anderson announced that our treasury account is presently over $600 which allows the Board to begin the 501-3(c) incorporation process.
c. Ron Wilson reported that the Three Creeks Advisory Committee meets at the Waste Water Bldg on every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 10 am.
d. Dan Bodell announced that the Klineline bridge is completed and open for traffic. A formal celebration will be held at the bridge on Friday Sept 26th.
e. Barbara Anderson announced that a NSCNA newsletter distribution system has been established to ensure the newsletter gets a wide distribution on the months it is not mailed out by the County (three times per year). At present about 60% of the residents in the NSCNA boundary are covered by the distribution network. However, there are still some areas that need volunteers to get the newsletter into mail boxes or on porches. Any one interested please contact Barbara or other members of the Board.
f. The 3rd Annual Halloween Decoration Contest will be held and nominations are requested. If you have a neighbor who does an outstanding job of decorating their abode be sure to nominate them to the NSCNA Board by October 28th. Judging will take place on the evening of October 30th and winners will be announced at the November general meeting.
2. Old Business.
a. Incorporation as 501 3 (c). There are five documents required for the 501-(3) incorporation process and all are either complete or in preparation.
3. Speakers .
a. Bill Wright and Michael Derleft of the clark County Transportation Department spoke first. The primary emphasis was on sidewalk construction in the County. Budget for sidewalk construction is limited for each year and an elaborate prioritization process is required to ensure that the monies are distributed in a manner that addresses safety among other criteria. In our area there are present projects East of Felida Park, along NW 124th St and along NE 142nd near 72nd. The budget for next year has been increased to about $700k. ADA ramps are amont the key issues that are being addressed.
b. Next up was Jim Mansfield who spoke about recycling in Clark County. Plans are afoot to have integrated recycling bins available in most areas of the County next year. All recyclables excluding glass and plastics will be combined in the one large bin for curbside collection. Jim identified the collection sites and hours of operation in Clark County and how to handle special and hazardous items. He also pointed out that most recycling information can be found at the following website – - http://www.co.clark.wa.us/recycle/recyclingA-Z.html.
c. Deputy Jeremy Brown of the CC sheriff’s department passed out the latest Crime Tips. There has been a rash of automobile “Smash ‘n Grab” crimes in CC of late. Please don’t leave valuables in your car and certainly don’t leave them visible. Windows can be smashed and items grabbed in a matter of seconds and it is happening in broad daylight and in busy parking areas.
4. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm with a drawing for door prizes
provided by our local merchant supporters. One-on-one discussions with our speakers went on for some time for those included to stay.
Our next meeting will be on November 18th at 7pm. The library will not be available for that date so we will meet in a conference area at the Riverview Community Bank located in the Fred Meyer shopping center.
Many thanks to our local mechant supporters for refreshments at our meetings and coupons as door prizes.
