Happy 4th of July to all our friends and fellow Americans in Salmon Creek, across America, and around the world.
It will be a strange 4th of July here in Vancouver, WA as the Fort Vancouver Fireworks Celebration has been cancelled this year for the first time since 1963 due to lack of funds. The Fort will still be open for picnics and BBQ’s, but no personal fireworks are allowed.
I grew up here, and for as long as I can remember, it was our family tradition to go down to the Fort every 4th of July for the show. I always remember my dad proudly proclaiming, “The largest fireworks show West of the Mississippi!” Not sure where he got that information, but I believed it.
The plan is to have the show again in 2010, so we hope to see there next year, and be safe.
