High School Fire Cadets Hosting Fundraiser.

The Clark County Fire and Rescue High School Fire Cadets will be hosting a fundraiser Garage Sale on Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 at Station 26 (21609 NE 72nd Ave, 98604).

The Clark County Fire Cadet program was established in 1991 for High School Juniors and Seniors with a career interest in the fields of Fire Fighting, Emergency Medicine, 911 Dispatching, Fire Prevention, or Arson Investigation.  The Department worked with the Clark County Vocational Skills Center and Battle Ground School District to establish a program that would provide an opportunity for high school students to study fire science and emergency medicine from professional firefighters and paramedics.

For current Fire Cadets, there is an equal emphasis on scholastic and practical learning. Physical fitness is also a large part of the training, with a weekly three mile run followed by an hour long workout in 50 pounds of gear! Whew, I got tired just writing that!!  8-)

So, besides more school work and intense physical training, Fire Cadets are also eligible to receive College credits for successful completion of the program and a head start in their career. For more information, visit Clark County Fire and Rescue.

Give Back to Someone Who Has Given Much to Clark County.

There, but for the grace of God, go I.

I sit here at the computer at a loss for words. Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do three children have to grow up without their dad? Why does a young wife have to lose her husband? I don’t know the answers to any of these questions. How can we help? I do have an answer for that!

Clark County Sheriff’s Commander Mike Nolan has been with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office since 1982. He lives in La Center with his wife and three children and sits on the La Center City Council. Commander Nolan has been struck with an extremely fast growing form of brain cancer. He was just recently diagnosed, and the doctors did what they could do. Now it is up to us to do what we can do: pray for him and his family and help take some of the financial burden off his family for his end of life care.

There will be a fundraiser for Commander Mike Nolan on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Sleep Country Amphitheater in Ridgefield, WA.  There will be a BBQ and sodas, camaraderie and fellowship; and I’ve heard the Vancouver Police Department Band will be there, too.

This event is open to everyone! A “Friends of Mike Nolan Fund” has been opened at Riverview Community Bank and donations can be made at any branch. For more information, contact Jill Callies at 360-816-7000.

Salmon Creek Elementary Art Show and Bingo Night

March 22, 2010 by Melanie

The annual art show fundraiser is quickly approaching! Please mark your calendars for March 23rd to attend Salmon Creek Elementary’s Annual Art Show and Bingo Family Night.

Your children have been working very hard in art class producing wonderful one of a kind art pieces. For those who are unfamiliar with the fundraiser, the students create a drawing in art class which is then sent to a company that turns it into magnets, note cards and many other memorable pieces. The magnets, as well as other gifts featuring your child’s artwork, will be available to purchase on the night of the art show. For all of the items you buy of your child’s artwork, money then goes back into the school. It is a great way to help out the school and collect memories of your child at the same time!

Look for more information about the night coming home soon! Any questions please email April Molinsky at amolinsky@gmail.com.
