The Hazel Dell PTA brings you the first Hazel Dell Elementary School Family Movie Night of the year! “How to Train Your Dragon” will be playing on Friday, October 15 between 6 and 8 pm.

The Hazel Dell PTA will be providing popcorn and snacks (but donations are always welcome!), and pizza by the slice or whole pizzas will be available for purchase. There will also be a PJ and Costume Parade, and just good ‘ol fun!

“This is our first Family Movie Night of the year so please come and enjoy a fun-filled family movie night watching “How to Train Your Dragon” together! There will be snacks, prizes, and keep an eye on the big screen for some extra pre-movie fun!”

Did you know you can earn money for our local schools just by eating? Box Tops from hundreds of participating General Mills products can generate Free Money for Chinook and Salmon Creek Elementary Schools.

You can help just by shopping for groceries, items you likely would buy anyway. Box Tops are worth 10¢ each. Save your Box Tops and have your child drop them in the collection box at school. If you don’t have school aged children you can still participate; just collect the Box Tops and drop them off at your local school office – it doesn’t cost you a thing and the schools are most appreciative!!!

No, no Green Eggs and Ham for our teachers for breakfast (that is saved for our first graders later on in the year!)

The first day of school for Salmon Creek Elementary School students is Wednesday, September 8, 2010; but the first day back to school for Salmon Creek Elementary School teachers is Thursday, September 2, 2010.

The Salmon Creek PTA is planning a back to school breakfast for our wonderful teachers at 8 am. We’ll have some new teachers, as well as a new principal, to welcome back to school this year and are looking for some volunteers to help with food and drinks. The plan is to keep it simple for all involved: bagels, pastries, fruit, juice, etc. Can you help?

In the spirit of Halloween, the first Family Movie Night of the school year will be “Monster House”, playing on October 12, 2009 at 6:30 pm.  Bring your pillow and blanket, grab a spot on the floor, and enjoy the show!  The Salmon Creek PTA will also be selling popcorn and Halloween candy for those who want a little snack during the show!

Don’t miss the fall Book Fair at Chinook Elementary! This year’s theme is Reading Around the World. The
book fair is a fantastic opportunity to stock up on books for your home library, as well as to purchase books as gifts for your child’s classroom teacher.

The book fair will be October 13-16th, with extended hours on Thursday, October 15th, and Friday, October 16th.  If you’re interested in volunteering at the book fair, please contact Natalie Brehm at bookfair@chinookpta.com and let her know.

Salmon Creek Elementary students will be working with Mrs. Kadow (aka “Art Teacher Extraordinaire”) to create individual masterpieces.  These masterpieces will be turned into magnets, and will also be on display at the Art Show March 17.  Parents also have the opportunity to order other gift items (notecards, aprons, flags, etc.) featuring their child’s work.  And, in a stroke of genius, the orders will be back in time for Mother’s Day.  Salmon Creek Art Show, March 17, 6:30-8:00 pm.

The Salmon Creek School 5th Grade Party Planning Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 24 has been cancelled.  The next meeting will be scheduled sometime after Spring Break.

Ever have to be in two places at the same time?  Well, if you have kids attending both Alki and Salmon Creek Schools, you better figure it out!

As we have yet to figure out how to be in two places at the same time, I believe we will be pulling out the Sock’em Boppers to settle this dispute.

You see, we have two kids attending Salmon Creek Elementary School, and one attending Alki.  Both school’s PTA/PTSA do a nice job of planning Family Nights.  But, on March 17, BOTH schools planned a Family Night!

Salmon Creek Elementary is having an Art Show and Bingo Night from 6:30-8:00.  Sounds like a fun evening.

Alki is having their PTSA Elections for next year, followed by a St. Patrick’s Day Family Fun Night at (you guessed it) 6:30.  Also, a fun evening.

My understanding of a Family Night, is to spend time together, as a family.  We will now be forced to either split-up (just for this event, mind you) or choose one school over the other.  I know we are not the only parents with this dilemma (but, don’t worry Christine and Rachelle, we won’t name names here).

So, if you don’t see us at Family Night, please understand we are at the “other” school.  And, if you do see us, and we have a few black eyes or bruises, well, please understand that as well.

The Salmon Creek PTA will meet Tuesday, February 17 at 6 p.m.  All parents and guardians of Salmon Creek Elementary students are invited and encouraged to attend.
