It’s More Than a Fun Run.

The Run For A Wish is a fundraising event supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Priscilla Timmons, a Skyview High School Senior, is participating in the Ms. Skyview Pageant. This special pageant’s mission is to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.

Two hour late start days provide our educators with needed time to work together to help our students succeed. But it can also wreak havoc on parent’s schedules. So, what is a parent to do? GET MAD!

Mad Science is offering a series of fun, educational, hands-on workshops before school on late start days from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. Classes will be held in the Salmon Creek Elementary School Cafeteria on late-start Mondays, with a different theme each month.

In October, the First Fridays in Felida event will be October 1st from 6 to 8 pm and October 8 from 6 to 8 pm, and will be featuring young artists from the area. Ahh, the first day of school; fresh faces, new pencils and erasers, crisp, clean notebooks and a nice backpack to carry all those supplies in.  Unfortunately, that is not the situation for many kids returning to school this year.  Budgets have been cut in both homes and schools and many children will lack the basic tools necessary for successful learning without our help.

Free sports physicals are available for all Vancouver Public School students. No appointment is necessary (except at the Free Clinic of SW Washington). Students may be accompanied by a parent, or download the parent permission form.

Salmon Creek School Fire

Actually, It Was On Fire.

I always thought Salmon Creek Elementary School was a cool place. Well, it turns out it was pretty hot early this morning!

There was a short in the electrical room, which caused a fire this morning at about 4 am. The school’s sprinkler system was activated and Clark County Fire District 6 firefighters were also on the scene. Damage was limited to the electrical room, and Vancouver Public Schools maintenance crews were working on getting everything back to normal.
